Abstract

Buildings Play A Big Role In Environmental Degradation, Which Has Given Rise To The Idea Of "Sustainable Buildings," Which Are Built To Be Energy And Water Efficient, Employ Sustainable Materials That Aren't Harmful, And Provide Healthy, Productive Indoor And Outdoor Settings. This Idea, However, Is Highly Novel In Ethiopia Cities Specially Asella City, Which Has Recently Seen A Huge Expansion In The Building Industry And Is Currently Experiencing A Building Construction Boom. The Majority Of City Buildings Employ Hcb Wall And Glass Facades, Which Increase Energy Consumption And Cause Glares, Rather Than Taking Advantage Of The Great Climate. In Order To Increase Sustainability Efforts, It Is Necessary To Improve The Environmental Performance Of These Structures Through The Application Of Green/Sustainable Building Principles Before The Issue Becomes Unfixable. In Order To Understand The Gap, Its Challenges, Opportunities, And Appropriate Approaches For Application And Implementation In Asella, This Thesis Evaluates The Nature Of A Few Chosen Buildings Based On Sustainable Building Principles, By Using A Case Study And Document Review To Gather The Essential Data. In Order To Get The Necessary Data, A Mixed Strategy That Makes Use Of Both Qualitative And Quantitative Data Was Used To Gather Information From Primary Sources Through Site Surveys, Interviews, And Questionnaires As Well As Secondary Data Through Document Reviews And Case Studies. The Majority Of The Surveyed Buildings Have Poor Indoor Quality That Can Sometimes Contribute Comfortless Of Occupants, Rely On Imported Materials Rather Than Using Local And Low Impact Materials, Consume A Significant Amount Of Unnecessary Energy, And Pay Little Attention To Water Efficiency Or The Surrounding Area. These Findings Come From The Analysis Of The Data Gathered. According To The Practitioners' Responses, Lack Of Knowledge About Sustainable Buildings, Developers' Lack Of Interest, The Lack Of Government Incentives, And Other Factors Make It Difficult To Put The Concept Of Sustainable Building Into Practice. The Best Approach, In The Practitioners' Opinion, Is To Promote Sustainable Buildings Through Public Awareness Campaigns. Finally, The Thesis Makes The Required Suggestions In Light Of The Issues Found.
