Abstract
It Has Been Observed That Sinotrucks Are Causing Collision Frequently In Ethiopia. Even Though There Are Many Different Reasons, Foot Valve Reaction Time Delay May Be One Of The Problem Reason Behind Such Collision. The Purpose Of This Thesis Is To Improve The Brake System Of Sinotruck By Altering The Design And Development Of Automated Pneumatic Braking Control System. The Methods Employed For This Work Are Modeling Component Parts Using Catia Software, Programmed Using Arduino Programming Software And Preparing A Prototype. The Model Was Developed With Ultrasonic Sensors And Controllers Such As Arduino Uno Microcontroller, Solenoid Plunger, Relay, Etc. To Apply The Brakes Before A Collision Can Occur. Furthermore, The Prototype Of The Automated Braking System Was Constructed For Demonstration And Checked Its Functionality. The Overall Design Was Based On The Arduino Uno Microcontroller. Also Ultrasonic Sensor Which Is Used For Detecting Object, And A Solenoid For Actuating The Brake Were Included In The Design. The Microcontroller Acts As The Bridge Between The Sensor And Solenoid By Receiving An Electrical Signal From The Ultrasonic Sensors And Sending The Signal To The Relay To Activated A Solenoid. It Observed That The New Automated Braking System Reduced 27.6m At Maximum Speed (75km/H) Compared To Existing One (42.2m). As A Result This Thesis Contribute To Efforts Of Increasing Road Safety And Minimizing Collision By Reducing Stopping Distance Of Sinotruck.
