Abstract
The Construction Industry All Around The World Is Getting Modern, Advance, And Growing Day By Day. Despite The Continuous Development Of The Construction Industry, Buildings Will Suffer From Different Defects That Appear In Different Public Buildings Throughout Their Life Cycle. Building Defects Can Be Caused By Many Factors, Such As Poor Workmanship, Use Of Defective Materials, Or Lack Of Maintenance Activities. The Low Performance Of Building Maintenance Has Had A Significant Effect On Building, And It Has Had A Great Impact On The Social And Economic Development Of The Countries. This Study Aims To Assess The Current Building Defect Maintenance Management In The Public Buildings. The Study Was Conducted In The Amhara Region Debre Birhan Town Public Building. To Achieve The Study Objective, G+3 And Above Public Buildings (Public Condominium Houses, Educational Buildings, And Government Administration Buildings) Are Taken As A Population, And The Sample Size Of These Buildings Is 68 By Using The Sample Size General Formula. Different Techniques Of Data Collection Methods Were Used Including Questionnaires, Interviews, And Observational Case Study. The Data For This Work Was Obtained From Government Representatives, Construction Works Participants In The Area, And These Public Building Users. Quantitative And Qualitative Analysis Was Also Used. To Analyze Data, Ibm Spss (Stastical Package For Social Science)Statics And Microsoft Excel Using Relative Importance Index And Frequency Distribution Method Of Analysis As Well As Case Study Analysis Also Used. In This Paper The Major Defects That Occurred In A Public Building And Their Challenges To Maintain Investigated As Well As Their Maintenance Management Practices. And Also It Carried Assessment Of Public Building Defects, Conditions Of The Buildings. The Findings Of The Study Revealed That There Is A Serious Lack Of Building Maintenance Plan And Maintenance Strategies, Building Facility Management, Professional Experts In Building Maintenance Management, Organized Building Management, Proper Planning In Facility Management, Training For Building Maintenance, Regular Building Condition Assessment.
