Abstract

A public recreational destination is an area where anybody can go for free. Everyone is free to participate in a variety of activities at the location. Public recreational destinations played a vital role in everyone? life. People needed to walk or stay in the recreational destinations, factors that affect the utilization of recreational destinations in developing nations are accessibility, income, occupation, education, and age, Accessibility is assessed by factors such as continuity, closeness, connection, readability, walkability, convenience, but it is relatively unknown in developing countries like Ethiopia. Hence the goal of this study was to evaluate the accessibility of the outdoor recreational destination and the perception of the users, in Adama town in the case of the Bole sub-city. To achieve the intended objectives, combinations of quantitative and qualitative research approaches were applied and interviews, observation, and the questionnaire was used as data collection tools. The result of the study shows that public recreational destinations are available in different parts of the bole sub-city but there was uneven distribution, the majority of the users were people who leave nearby the area, Based on the result the four recreational places found in the sub-city are in poor condition with limited activity, limited play options, limited facilities and, they are not welcoming, Moreover, the existing recreational places are not properly and regularly managed, Lack of community involvement, financial constraints, miss-use of land, lack of implementation, lack of cooperation with the community and, lack of professional resource was found as the factor that hinders the accessibility of the recreational destination in the study area. Therefore, the city administration should Encourage regional alternative transportation projects that will enhance the accessibility of the area in addition with Maintain, developing, and modifying facilities to increase accessibility for people with all abilities and to improve the user's experience it should Increase programs for youth, especially those older than 14 - encourage continued personal development and growth. and also create new programs that focus on personal wellness, nutrition, and financial wellbeing.
