Governance Of Urban Green Space:- In The Case Of Bishoftu Town

Abstract

Urban Green Spaces Significantly Influence The Social, Environmental, And Economic Aspects Of Sustainable Development. Urban Green Spaces Are Given Less Priority In Urban Planning Despite The Great Benefits They Provide, And There Is A Dearth Of Effective Green Space Plan Implementation And Governance In Urban Centers Of Ethiopia Like Bishoftu Town. Due To Ineffective Green Space Governance And A Lack Of Development Attention, Bishoftu Town Does Not Have Enough Urban Green Space. Hence, This Study Aims To Investigate Urban Green Spaces Governance Practices And Propose Ways That Enhance The Governance Practices In Bishoftu City Diree Jituu Kebele. To Achieve The Intended Objective Of The Study Both Descriptive And Explanatory Research Methods Were Applied. As A Data Collection Technique Structured Open-End And Close-End Questionnaires, Interviews, Focus Group Discussion, Gis Mapping From Orthophoto 2019, And Direct Observation Was Employed. The Quantitative Data Were Analyzed Through Descriptive Statistics While The Qualitative Data Is Analyzed Through Content And Context Analysis.Results Indicated That In Diree Jituu Kebele There Are Green Spaces Such As A Nursery Site, Neighborhood Green Space, Linear Green Space Along The Street, One Recreational Park, And Institutional Green Spaces. However, According To The Study's Findings, These Green Spaces Have No Adequate Facilities, Are Not Accessible To The Community, And Are Being Utilized For A Variety Of Inappropriate Activities, Such As Dumping Trash And Building Materials, Driving, And Grazing. TheResult Also Shows That There Is No Well-Organized Institutional Setup Developed For Urban Green Space Governance. Financial Constraints, Communication Gap, Public Participation, Political Commitment, And Proper Planning Constrained The Governances Of Urban Green Spaces In The Study Area. Therefore, The Study Recommends Improving The Institutional Framework, Creating Bottom-Up Communication, Enhancing Public Participation, And Providing Adequate Budget AsImportant Measures To Enhance The Urban Green Spaces Governance Practices In Diree Jituu Kebele In Particular And In Bishoftu Town In General.
