Abstract
Economic load dispatch (ELD) is a process of finding optimal generation scheduling of
available generators in an interconnected power system to meet the demand of the system,
at lowest possible cost (fuel consumption), while satisfying various operational constraints
on the system. The main aim of this thesis is to minimize the generator power production
cost (water consumption) and to keep the power outputs of the generator within prescribed
limit by using meta-heuristics technics like particle swarm optimization (PSO), artificial bee
colony (ABC) and simulated annealing (SA) algorithm Optimization Techniques. And the
algorithms will be tested on gibe III hydroelectric power plant. This optimization problem
involves economically scheduling the generating units with some constraints like meeting
total load demand and losses within the power generation limits. The algorithms presented
in this thesis also consider the effect of loss formula coefficient (Bmn-coefficients) and these
methods has been implemented using MATLAB software. Finally, the obtained solution
quality and computation efficiency of these techniques are compared. And simulated
annealing algorithm has better discharge consumption and computation time efficiency
compared to the rest proposed technics.
