| dc.description.abstract | The Objective Of This Paper Is To Design An Automatic Braking System For An Ordinary Automobile That Can Assist A Driver To Avoid Collision. To Achieve This First The Braking Force Applied On A Toyota Automobile Was Measured. Then The Resulting Torque Was Calculated. Based On The Torque Value Calculated, The Specific Type Of Servomotor Was Chosen. Servomotor Was Found Suitable For This Design Since It Can Accurately Move To A Specified Angle. And Then The Brake Actuating Arm Was Designed Making Sure That It Fits To The Shaft Of The Servomotor. The Overall Design Was Based On The Arduino Uno Microcontroller. Also Ultrasonic Sensor For Detecting Objects Of Up To 5 Meter Away And Servomotor For Actuating The Brake Pedal Were Considered. The Brake Actuator That Joined The Servomotor To The Brake Pedal Arm Was Designed Using Catia. The Microcontroller Acted As The Bridge Between The Sensor And Servo By Receiving Electrical Signal From The Sensor And Sending That Signal To The Servo So That The Servo Can Rotate Clockwise Or Anti-Clockwise Depending On The Signal Received. The Connecting Arm From The Servo To The Brake Pedal Arm Was Designed Using Catia And Tested Using The Deformation Analysis. 12v Batteries Were Used; One To Power The Arduino And One To Power The Servomotor. The Code For The System Was Written Using Arduino Programming Software. This Paper Contributes To Efforts Of Increasing Road Safety And Minimizing Accidents. Also, It Can Be Used As An Input For Further Research In The Area Of Driver Assistant Systems In Ethiopia. The Deformation Analysis And Overall Design Showed That It Is Possible To Design Such Systems Locally With Minimal Cost | en_US |
