Ismm: An Improved Switch Migration Method Based Load Balancing For Multiple Controllers In Software Defined Network

dc.description.abstractSoftware-Defined Network (SDN) Is A New Paradigm Of Computer Networking That Is Based On The Concept Of Separating The Control Plane And Data Plane To Simplify Network Management Through Central Network Programmability And Rapid Innovation. Deployment Of Multiple Controllers In SDN Is A Promising Way To Achieve The Reliability And Scalability Of The SDN Controller. However, It Brings A New Problem Of Load Imbalance Between Multiple Controllers As The Network Traffic Dynamically Changed And Unbalanced Incoming Load Distribution Between The Controllers. Unbalanced Load Distribution Between The Controllers Will Reduce The Controller Performance By Increasing Response Time, Increasing Packet Loss, And Reducing The Throughput. The Existing Staged Switch Migration Strategy (SSMS), And Controller Adaptive And Migration Decision (CAMD) Are Two Methods That Were Recently Developed To Solve Such Problems In Which CAMD Achieves Better Results Over SSMS. However, When The Incoming Traffic Load Was Elephant Flow Still Both Existing Methods Are Not Effective, This Reduces The Overall System Performance. To Solve These Problems Improved Switch Migration Method (ISMM) Has Been Proposed In Our Study. The Proposed ISMM Was Used On Each Controllerduring Controller Load Balance To Decide A Set Of Underloaded And Overloaded Controllers. The Proposed Method Balances The Controller Load By Migrating The Switch From An Overloaded Toan Underloaded Controller. The Implementation Was Simulated Using The Mininet Simulation Tool. The Performance Of The Proposed Solution Has Been Evaluated By Using Throughput, Response Time, And Packet Loss Metrics And Compared With SSMS And CAMD. Accordingly, The Simulation Results Indicated That ISMM Improves Throughput By 7.6% Over SSMS And By 1.8% Over CAMD, Improves Response Time By 8.3% Over SSMS And By 4% Over CAMD, And Improves The Packet Loss By 8% Over SSMS And By 1.3% Over CAMD When The Incoming Traffic Load Is Between 501pps And 5010pps. This Study Concludes That ISMM Indicates A Better Improvement In All Assessed Metrics That Shows Efficient Results Over SSMS And CAMD By Balancing The Load Between Controllers.en_US
