Abstract
This thesis aimed to investigate the potential of activated carbon (AC) prepared from palm seeds powder (PSP) as an alternative and environmental friendly adsorbent for the treatment of dye containing wastewater. The results indicate that AC prepared from PSP could be employed as low cost alternatives to commercial activated carbon in waste water treatment for the removal of basic dyes. This low cost and effective removal method may provide a promising solution for the removal of methylene blue dye from wastewater. Kinetic and thermodynamic studies were investigated, pseudo second order was observed to be the most suitable to describe the adsorption process. Values obtained from thermodynamic analysis show that the adsorption process is endothermic, spontaneous and chemisorptions in nature.
