The Challenges And Opportunities Of Greenery Integration On Buildings Of Addis Ababa City

Abstract

Greenery In The Built Environment Benefits More Than Just People? ??S Health And Well-Being. It Ind orses Biodiversity In Built-Up Areas; And Can Help To Mitigate The Effect Of Flooding And Noise Pollution. However, Greenery And Plants Are Highly Depleted Due To Unplanned Urban Development In The Central Part Of Addis Ababa Which Has A Significant Impact On The Built Environment. The Most Effective Way To Overcome The Aforementioned Challenges Is To Incorporate Vegetation Into The Building. As A Result, The Purpose Of This Research Is To Assess The Current Challenges And Potential For Incorporating Greenery Into Addis Ababa's Buildings. In The Study Area, Twelve Buildings from Various Were das were selected to examine the Challenges and Possibilities. For The Perception And Willingness Investigation, 178 Respondents Were Chosen At Random From The Study Area's Community. Clinometer and Software Such As Autodesk Revit and Auto cad were used to calculate the Surface Area of the Building Envelopes. Based On The Result Of The Study 80% Of The Respondent Have Positive Perception And Good Will To Practice Green Building Envelope. The Study Also Found That Buildings Have A Suitable Building Envelope Surface For Integrating Greenery That Accounts For An Average Of 83.1% Of The Building's Footprint. Majority Of Respondents Chose Spot Flowers, Balcony Gardening And Terrace Gardening To Install On The Buildings Because They Are Simple To Install And Maintain. The Installation Cost, Shortage Of Water, And Lack Of Maintenance Technician Are Raised As The Major Challenges To Practice Green Building Envelope. According To The Study's Findings, About 45% Of Respondents Have No Experience With Green Building Envelopes Due To Poor Awareness. The Finding Revealed That Absence Of Special Provision In Building Regulation Concerning Green Building Envelope Has Also Lead To Poor Practices. According To The Findings, The Municipality Should Develop And Enact A Special Building Regulation That Enforces The Use Of Greenery On Building Envelopes; The Urban Greenery And Beautification Bureau Should Raise Community Awareness About The Use Of Green Building Envelopes; And The Cost Of Greening Building Envelopes Technologies Should Be Partly Subsidized.
