Abstract

Until Now For Expansive Soils Different Stabilization Techniques Were Applied, However In This Study The Combined Effect Of Bagasse Ash And Lime Was Investigated. The Aim Of This Study Is To Evaluate The Effects Of Maturation Period On The Geotechnical Properties Of Bagasse Ash And Lime Stabilized Expansive Soil. For This Study Expansive Soil Samples From Two Test Pits Were Collected To Be Identified As The Weakest Test Pit Based On Their Plasticity Property, Swelling Property And Compressive Strength And Further The Weakest Soil, Selected Additives And Soil-Additive Mixtures Were Characterized For Their Mineralogical Compositions Using X-Ray Diffraction (Xrd) Analysis. Atterberg Limit, Free Swell, Specific Gravity, Compaction And Ucs Tests Were Used To Evaluate Properties Of Stabilized Soil With Bagasse Ash At 0%, 5%, 10%, 15% And 20% By Dry Weight Of Soil. For Evaluate The Effects Of Maturation Period On Geotechnical Properties Of Bagasse Ash And Lime Stabilized Expansive Soil, The Ucs Test Is Observed For Uncured And 7,14,28,60 And 90 Days Cured Condition. The Results Of These Tests Have Shown That The Bagasse Ash Can Reduce Pi From 45.9% To 32.2%, Mdd From 1.232g/Cc To 1.187g/Cc And Fsi From 110% To 71%. The Ucs Value Is Shows Increase Up To 15% From 110.18kpa To 185.32kpa For Uncured And From 116.12kpa To 195.8kpa For 7 Day Cured And It??S Decreased At 20%.So From Result 15% Is Shows The Best Result And It Was Used As Optimum Value Of Ba. From This Ucs Result Is Increased Up To 90 Day Cured For 15% Only, But For 5% And 10% Ucs Value Is Increase Up To 28 Days Then It Shows Decrease After 60 Days. And Also15% Is Combined By 3:1 (11.25% Of Ba And 3.75% Of Lime) And 2:2 (7.5% Of Ba And 7.5% Of Lime). The Plastic Limit, Swelling Characteristics, Compaction Test And Ucs Test Were Conducted To See The Effects Of Lime On Bagasse Ash Stabilized Expansive Soil. Again, The Result Shows Better Improvement Of Soil Properties By Reducing Plasticity Property When Increasing The Lime Content The Maximum Dry Density Decreases And The Optimum Moisture Content Increases. The Ucs Was Improved And Shows Increment Trough Maturation Period Rather Than Using Bagasse Ash Alone. So, These Two Stabilizing Materials Can Be Used For Ground Improvement. The Combination Of 15% Ba And 2:2 Of 15% (7.7% Of Ba And 7.5% Of Lime) Gave A Better Result At 90 Day Cured. From Result The Combination Of Ba And Lime Is More Effective Than The Addition Of Bagasse Ash Alone For The Strength Improvement Of Expansive Soil Due To High Content Of Ca Ion From Lime And Also The Maturation Period Have Positive Effects On Geotechnical Properties To Improvement Of Expansive Soil Related To Strength Because Ba And Lime Is Pozzolanic Reaction That Is Time Dependent To Gain Best Strength.
