Abstract
Increasing Cost Of Petroleum Fuels, Environmental Threats From Exhaust Emissions And Their Depleting Nature Have Generated Intense International Interest In Developing Renewable And Alternative Fuels For Diesel Vehicle. This Study Investigates The Suitability Of Biodiesel Derived From Vegetable Oil, Particularly From Cottonseed Oil Biodiesel On Diesel Vehicle. This Project Is Aimed To Conduct Tests Using Blends Of Diesel And Cottonseed Oil (Cso) Biodiesel In Diesel. This Project Includes Stages Of Producing Cottonseed Oil By Mechanical Pressing, Converting Cottonseed Oil In To Biodiesel By Transesterification Process, Measuring The Properties Of Biodiesel And Testing The Performance Of Diesel-Biodiesel Blends In Diesel Vehicle. When Producing Biodiesel From Cso, The Transesterification Process Is Done, Which Is Blended With Petroleum Diesel To Have The Properties Of Biodiesel Is Closest To That Of Conventional Diesel For Using Of Cottonseed Biodiesel As Alternative Fuel Without Any Modification With B20.B20 Is 20% Biodiesel And 80% Petroleum Diesel Blend, Such That The Diesel Engine Does Not Need Additional Modification For This Blend To Be Used. The Transesterifcation Reaction Is Affected By Molar Ratio Of Glycerides To Alcohol, Catalysts, Reaction Temperature, Reaction Time And Free Fatty Acids And Water Content Of Oils. The Performance Results Of Tested Blend Of Fuel (B20) From Cottonseed Oil Were Compared To Conventional Diesel.
