dc.description.abstractHydroxyapatite Was Synthesized By Wet Precipitation Method, Using Egg Shell As Calcium Precursor. To Enhance The Bioactivity And Antibacterial Property, Zinc Was Substituted To The Ha With A Ratio Of 0.3, 0.6, 0.9 And 1.2 Mol Percent. The Final Precipitate Were Analyzed By Xrd, Ftir, Tga And Disc Diffusion Method. The Xrd Data Show That For The Pure Ha And Zinc Substituted Ha In All Ratio, Pure Phase Of Hydroxyapatite Were Formed. As The Zinc Ratio Increased However, The Lattice Parameters, A And C, Tend To Decrease. In Addition, Crystal Size Also Show A Decrease From 14.3nm To 10.9nm For Pure Ha And Z1.2ha Respectively. This Was In Agreement To The Ftir Output Of The Functional Groups, In Which The Decrease In Intensity At Wavenumber Of 1020-1120 Cm-1(V3) Is Characteristic To Phosphate Groups Implying Decrease In Crystal Size. Hence, It Imply That Zinc Has Been Incorporated To The Ha. The Other Peak In The Ir Spectrum Proof For Presence Of Apatite Phase Like At Bands 574, 609, 966 And 1020-1120 Cm1 Representing Po43- Group And The Bands At 630 And 3570 Cm- 1 Representing Of Oh Group. The Thermal Analysis Indicates The Decomposition Temperature, That Is Conversion Of Hydroxyapatite To Tcp (Tetracalcium Phosphate) Was At 733 Oc, It Is Recommended That The Heat Treatment Temperature Be Set From 450-500oc. The Antibacterial Test For One Gram Positive And One Gram Negative Bacteria, That Are S Aureus And K Pneumoniae, Respectively After 24 Hr Incubation, Show That As The Zinc Concentration In The Apatite Increase So As The Zone Inhibition, Giving Highest Antibacterial Activity At Zinc 1.2% Substituted Ha For Both Bacteria Types. Therefore Zinc Substituted With 1.2 Mol % Can Be Chosen As Better Ha Material For Biomedical Application Considering Its Satisfactory Phase Characteristic And Its Higher Antibacterial Activity.en_US
