Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the preparation and implementation of the revised 2018 Adama Structural Plan, focusing on its effectiveness in guiding urban development and addressing the challenges faced by the city. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative data collection methods to provide a comprehensive analysis. The research begins with a thorough review of relevant literature on urban planning, structural plans, and their implementation. This literature review serves as a foundation for understanding the key concepts and theories related to the evaluation of structural plans. The primary data collection involves interviews with key stakeholders involved in the preparation and implementation of the revised 2018 Adama SP. These stakeholders include urban planners, government officials, community representatives, and developers. The interviews aim to gather insights into the planning process, the factors influencing decision-making, and the challenges encountered during implementation. Additionally, a survey will be conducted among residents and businesses in Adama to assess their perceptions of the effectiveness of the structural plan. The survey will gather data on various aspects, such as land use, infrastructure development, environmental sustainability, and community engagement. The collected data will be analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative methods. Qualitative analysis will involve thematic coding of interview transcripts to identify recurring themes and patterns. Quantitative analysis will involve statistical techniques to analyze survey responses and identify correlations between different variables. The findings of this research will contribute to the existing body of knowledge on urban planning and structural plan evaluation. The evaluation of the revised 2018 Adama SP will provide insights into its strengths and weaknesses, highlighting areas for improvement and potential strategies for enhancing its effectiveness. The research findings will be disseminated through academic publications, conferences, and workshops, targeting urban planners, policymakers, and researchers in the field of urban development. The recommendations derived from this study will inform future revisions of the Adama SP and serve as a valuable resource for other cities facing similar challenges in urban planning and implementation. Overall, this research aims to provide a comprehensive evaluation of the preparation and implementation of the revised 2018 Adama SP, shedding light on its effectiveness and offering recommendations for improvement. By doing so, it seeks to contribute to the sustainable development and efficient urban management of Adama and serve as a valuable reference for urban planners and policymakers worldwide.
