Abstract
In recent years, due to high urbanization in the main cities of Ethiopia and the growingdemand for infrastructure, the production of coarse aggregate has been increasing. Theimpact of increased production of coarse aggregate is seen in the increasing depletion ofnatural aggregates (NA). To meet this inordinate depletion the construction industry needsto have alternative sources from waste of clay brick factory, waste clay brick aggregate(WCBA) has earned great attention due to creates huge land acquisition problems andenvironmental pollution. The different types of aggregate gradations, water to cement ratio(W/C), and aggregate to cement ratio (A/C) play an important role in the mixture designingof pervious concrete (PC) mixtures. The main purpose of this research is to study theproperties (compressive strength, void ratio, and permeability) of PC using WCBA as coarseaggregate. The scanning electron microscope (SEM) tests will be conducted to obtain themicro-morphological of the interfacial transition zone (ITZ) and adjacent cement paste). This paper used the multi criteria decision making techniques (MCDM) for ranking PC mix.Test results showed that higher compressive strength is obtained in PC with NA comparedto PC with WCB. The obtained results showed that the binary blended aggregate size (G-450% of 10 mm, 50% of 12.5 mm) provides the best strength compared to the single-sizeaggregate. The optimum porosity, W/C, and A/C for PC with WCBA is 28.68%, 0.3 and 5,respectively, in the studied ranges. In summary, the results con???rmed that the NA could bereplaced with WCBA has better permeability, and porosity; however, the strength of PC withWCBA is lower than that of the NA concrete.
